In what has become an all too common occurrence in recent years, immigration fraud is once again making headlines. Just recently, a CBC investigation uncovered an ongoing illegal immigration scheme in western Canada where a ‘consultant’ would offer money to a business in exchange for a job offer to a foreign national. The consultant would offer to pay the foreign worker’s first three months of salary and benefits in addition to a handsome “training fee” – all of which are red flags that should alarm any business or foreign national approached by such an offer. All of this was done with the objective of using this fraudulent job offer to hire the foreign national through a province’s nominee program.

What you can do to avoid being caught up in these illegal schemes is to always be careful and mindful of who you are working with. Make sure to do your due diligence and work only with recommended and reputable immigration lawyers and consultants.
